“Absence that Breathes”

I see it in her eyes lot of times. When
she looks at me with that pause behind her smile, and I shatter a bit inside.
She wants me to believe his absence doesn’t matter.
But I know it does.

I saw it at her graduation…her first job .. her marriage..
I see it in the way her heart beats heavy, even as she tries to be strong.
The waiting, the endless hope that never arrived — it has carved something into her.
An absence that breathes.

And yet, she smiles, she soars, she conquers. God has been kind.
But every triumph carries a quiet ache, every milestone holds a missing piece.

I tell her I’m here, it’s enough, she has me.
But I know the truth. No one can fill that one space.
The one person she misses but will never say aloud — her father.
His absence is the loudest presence in the room.

So here is my plea to every parent who chooses distance when life gave them the gift of presence — childhood will not wait for you.
Its moments will never return.
Your child will grow, and she will soar, but she will always carry the silence of what could have been.

Don’t turn away.
Because when you do, you leave behind scars no time can heal.
And you steal from your child the memories she deserved to hold close forever.
