Bittu had been asking me to attend this reunion — the grand old KV ASC/JLA one.
I wasn’t very sure. Life had already started feeling a little fossilised… and honestly, what was I even supposed to talk about? God’s sake, now my daughter too is out of school and married. What will I do there? What can one even talk about at a school reunion at this stage of life?
Then Ruby (my younger sis) called and said she was coming during that period.
That was it. Decision made. Reunion it was.
Sunday came, and I rushed to school — yes, our school — KV ASC/JLA.
And there we were… standing in the same corridors, the same grounds, except now everything felt smaller. Or maybe we had just grown larger — in years, experiences, stories.
So many faces I could barely recognise. Some hadn’t changed at all.
Some had changed so much they were almost unrecognisable.
Some juniors and seniors I was meeting for the first time.
And then we started introducing ourselves — awkward, polite, slightly shy — ☺️
By the time we reached lunch, it felt like time had quietly collapsed.
Doctors, surgeons, teachers, army officers, civil officers , entrepreneurs — all grown up.
But within minutes, we were back to being the same school kids underneath.
We laughed.We relived memories.
We spoke of teachers, punishments, friendships, silly incidents.
And suddenly… there we were in a time zone where there were
No phones. No reels. No social media validation.
Just us — talking, laughing, playing.
That day felt different.No rushing.
No judging.No competing.
Just pure, old-school friendship — the kind that existed before life happened and made us busy.
Somewhere along the way, as we leave school, we lose those carefree versions of ourselves.
We become efficient. Responsible. Successful.
And very, very busy.
That day wasn’t just a reunion.
It was a reunion with time.
With the version of ourselves that got lost in being grown up.
And for a few hours,we didn’t age.
We simply found ourselves again —in old corridors.
Maybe that’s what school and college friends are really meant for.
We meet them… and without even realising it,we time travel.
Back to who we were,…back to who we still are somewhere inside….
